Cozy private space

The client’s primary goals were to upgrade and modernize their backyard while creating a cozy and private atmosphere.

BEFORE: Showing the backyard area with uneven terrain.

The main challenge was addressing drainage issues. Since the porch sits below grade, we designed the patio with a slight pitch toward one corner to direct water flow. A groove cut at the base of the concrete wall effectively prevented any puddling, ensuring proper drainage.

The sunken porch, featuring Italian porcelain tiles, provided an intimate and cozy ambiance for the dining area.

We proposed a poured concrete wall with a wood-grain texture to combine a modern aesthetic with a nod to the craftsmanship of traditional unfinished poured concrete walls.

Our journey began organically. As a plant biology college professor, I cultivated my own dream garden when I purchased my first home. Little did I know, my neighbors started admiring my garden and sought my help with their own yards. In 2015, I took my passion to the next level by obtaining a landscape design certificate from esteemed Emory University.
This prompted me to establish Designed Landscapes that same year, and we’ve been flourishing ever since. Our secret to success is simple yet effective – we create custom gardens that prioritize personalization.
