Formal Kitchen + Pollinator Garden

The West Paces Ferry Formal Kitchen and Pollinator Garden began as a blank canvas with a clear mandate: to honor the historic character and Regency Revival style of this legacy-level estate. The clients sought a showpiece garden that could serve as a refined backdrop for frequent entertaining while functioning as a productive, "living masterpiece". This required a design that could seamlessly blend timeless elegance with a lifestyle centered around cooking, gardening, and family engagement.

To achieve this, designers Adriana Hernandez and Juan Tobon of Arcoiris Design LLC utilized Wintergreen boxwoods to define distinct "garden rooms," providing year-round structure and visual clarity. The landscape expertly balances formality with productivity, integrating fruit espaliers, berries, and Atlanta-appropriate herbs within a structured layout. Elegant pathways of Indian Creek pea gravel and cobblestone borders guide guests through the space, leading to romantic focal points like cedar obelisk trellises with climbing roses and a large, imaginative fairy garden designed specifically for the family’s children.

The project’s success lies in its commitment to sustainability and organic practices at an estate scale. By implementing organic soil-amending practices and selecting climate-adapted, pollinator-friendly species, the team ensured the garden remains resilient and healthy without synthetic inputs. Despite the high complexity of blending multiple garden functions into a cohesive whole, the result is a sophisticated, enduring outdoor space that brings organic goodness directly to the table while respecting the architectural integrity of the historic West Paces Ferry Road home.
