Marsh View: A Coastal-Tropical Sanctuary
The Marsh View Residence began with a homeowner’s vision to transform an undeveloped lot into a dream outdoor living environment that celebrates its unique coastal location. Designed by John Whittingslow of The Shoreline Group and installed by Golden Sea Outdoors, the project sought to maximize stunning views of the surrounding marshland while seamlessly integrating the built environment into the natural landscape. The design team prioritized functional gathering spaces for the family, aiming to establish a lush, tropical atmosphere that balances luxury with the serenity of the protected coastal ecosystem.
To achieve this, the team utilized the site's existing topography to develop multiple levels, each offering distinct vantage points of the horizon. The comprehensive program includes a pool and spa, a putting green, diverse lounge areas, a summer kitchen, and an intimate shade garden. By blending native and tropical plantings with carefully selected hardscape materials, the designers created a "relaxed paradise" where recreational features are stitched into the preserved native canopy. Symmetry between the architecture and the landscape—including the pool, fire bowls, and stepped transitions—reinforces a sense of order and clarity that guides the eye toward the primary marsh vista.
The project’s completion required extraordinary technical precision, particularly regarding intricate paving patterns, hardscape cuts, and consistent turf spacing within a high-detail environment. Coordinating complex systems within limited utility areas was another hurdle, solved by an in-house project manager who developed an integrated control system for the pool, filtration, irrigation, and fire features. The final result is a highly functional, multi-sensory landscape that preserves long views to the horizon, allowing a modern lifestyle to coexist harmoniously with the site’s undisturbed coastal habitat.
