The UAC Capitol Campaign
 
The Georgia Urban Agriculture Council (UAC) is a collaborative effort of many segments of our industry. The UAC is currently made up of six associations: Coastal Landscape & Turf Professional Association, Georgia Green Industry Association, Georgia Irrigation Association, Georgia Sod Producers Association, Georgia Turfgrass Association and Metro Atlanta Landscape & Turf Association.
 
Our mission is simple: to address issues of common interest as “one voice – one industry.”
 
We’ve been working for you. The UAC monitors and responds to current events daily. Through the efforts of the UAC:

  • We hold seats on the Governor’s Agricultural Advisory Committee and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Water Advisory Board and have a good relationship established with these offices and other state and federal officials and legislators
  • We have a professionally managed public relations campaign has been initiated resulting in op-ed pieces, various newspaper articles as well as generating television and radio coverage of our issues.
  • A UAC committee is reviewing the 2008 Comprehensive Statewide Water Management Plan to ensure equitable treatment for our industry
  • The socio-economic impact of the drought has been assessed and updated by an industry-wide survey and presented to state leadership and the media
  • Talking points on our Key Issues have been developed and shared with association membership
  •  Legal research and possible litigation has been conducted by our legal counsel
  • Grassroots letter-writing and email campaigns have been conducted through all member associations for the purpose of influencing policy decision
  • A web site (www.urbanagcouncil.com) has been created to be a source of updated information and as a clearinghouse for articles and documents of interest to the industry and others

We know that the past year has been tough for all of us and nearly everyone is in shock to discover that the state of Georgia is in the process of regulating us out of business. But, that is a reason to intensify our efforts.

Work at the local level is your key to success. Don't wait to contact your local government officials to share with them the economic importance of your industry. In fact, why not gather other local businesses to join you. Your local newspaper and other media are interested in your story...please contact them.

The past year has taught us one good lesson, we must grow our organization and develop a strong and consistent voice for the urban agriculture industry in Georgia.  With your donation, and active participation in UAC, we should have the funds and strength in numbers to withstand the obstacles confronting our industry now and in the years to come.
